ELIZABETH CITY, N.C. – The fight of the Chowan Men's Basketball team never faltered as the Hawks held off cross-town rival 64-60 on the road in CIAA Northern Division action on Saturday afternoon.

Gus Rowland finished the contest with 19 points going 7-10 from the charity stripe. Dino Muminovic tallied his second double-double of the season with 16 points and 11 boards.
Robert Grubbs notched 13 points, while Tim Hewett and Ugljesa chipped in with seven points each.
The Hawks outscored the Vikings 40-28 in the second half.
HOW IT HAPPENED
First Half:
Elizabeth City State jumped out to an early 10-0 lead forcing a Chowan timeout. Dino Muminovic ended the run with a layup at the 15:38 mark. Gus Rowland and Robert Grubbs added to the scoring with a bucket. Grubbs added another bucket forcing an ECSU timeout, down 12-8.
Back-to-back treys by Grubbs out of the timeout allowed the Hawks to knot the contest up at 14-all. Ugljesa Portic kept the Hawks tied after trading baskets with the Vikings. Tim Hewett gave the Hawks their first lead of the contest with a layup midway through the half, 18-17.
Chowan was unable to find their stroke over the next six minutes of action until Tim Hewett drained a three to cut the deficit to 24-21. ECSU would push their lead back to seven, 28-21.
The Vikings would push their advantage down the stretch before Tim Hewett tallied a layup to close the gap to 30-24 in the final minute of the half.
ECSU led 32-24 at the halftime buzzer.
Second Half:
Dino Muminovic sparked a 10-2 rally to knot the contest up at 34-all just 3:15 into the half. Muminovic scored eight points, going 4-4 from the stripe. Gus Rowland tallied a layup. Ugljesa Portic gave the Hawks the lead, 36-34, with 15:15 on the clock to force a timeout by the Vikings.
The lead would change hands as Dino Muminovic finished the offensive possession with a put-back to keep the game tied. Robert Grubbs knocked down his third triple of the contest to hand the lead back to the Hawks, 41-40, midway through the second half.
Ugljesa Portic once again tied the contest up for the Hawks, 43-all, heading to the media timeout. Gus Rowland scored the next nine points for the Hawks to maintain the slight advantage for the Hawks, 52-50, knocking down a pair of threes during the spurt.
The Vikings would not go away quietly tying the contest up at 53-all with five minutes to play. Dino Muminovic continued to push the Hawks ahead with a put-back. ECSU took their first lead of the second half after knocking down a trey, 56-55. Muminovic handed the lead back to the Hawks with a layup at the other end.
Gus Rowland went 5-6 from the charity stripe to give the Hawks a 62-60 advantage with 20 seconds left. The Vikings missed two shots in the final seconds as the Hawks completed the comeback 64-60.
