WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. – The Chowan Volleyball Team dropped the final match of the CIAA Round-Up hosted by Winston-Salem State on Sunday morning against defending CIAA Champion, Shaw, 3-0.

Courtney O'Keefe led the Hawks with a team-high eight kills. O'Keefe tallied four blocks in the contest.
Karisa Patterson posted a double-double with 19 assists and 13 digs. Bailey Zavala recorded 14 digs, while teammate Alyssa Born had 13 digs.
HOW IT HAPPENED
1st Set: Chowan 18, Shaw 25
The Bears scored the first five points of the opening set with three service aces during the run. Brittany Tschida tallied one of her five kills on the day for the first kill for the Hawks at 6-3.
Shaw extended their lead to 10-4 forcing a Chowan timeout. The Bear run continued as they widened the gap to 20-10. Courtney O'Keefe recorded two kills to cut the deficit to 21-15 but the Bears found the final four points they needed to take the set 25-18.
2nd Set: Chowan 22, Shaw 25
The Hawks and Bears battled early in the set trading the lead. Courtney O'Keefe gave the Hawks the 6-5 before two straight errors gave the lead back to the Bears.
Shaw would push forward to take a 16-11 on a service ace forcing a Chowan timeout. A Kayla Gates service ace and a block by Courtney O'Keefe and Karisa Patterson cut the deficit to one, 19-18.
The Bears scored four straight points to take hold of the set, 23-18. Cheryl Thomas registered a kill to bring the Hawks to within two, 24-22, but a Bear kill gave Shaw the 25-22 set.
3rd Set: Chowan 14, Shaw 25
Five service aces sparked a Shaw run giving them a 13-1 lead. Kills by Courtney O'Keefe, Karisa Patterson, and Makayla Castro pulled the Hawks through the middle of the set as Chowan trailed 16-9.
The Bears would take the set 25-14 as Hawks miscues put the set out of reach.

Chowan will continue their CIAA road swing as the Hawks travel to Elizabeth City on Thursday, September 21.
