Chowan enters the contest winless on the season with a 0-2 record after losing to Delta State last weekend, 42-13. One of the biggest questions entering the season was, who the starting quarterback will be? Chowan has found that in freshman
Bryce Witt. Witt has tallied 576 yards through the air and connected on five touchdowns. The freshman has completed 63.8% of his passes so far this season.
Bryce Witt was named CIAA Quarterback of the Week and CIAA Rookie of the Week for his efforts against DSU. Witt threw for a career-high 319 yards.
The Hawks defense, led by senior
Nate Wyche and company, has stymied opposing offenses through the air allowing only one passing touchdown.
ABOUT THE ARGONAUTS
West Florida is coming off a "bye" week as their home opener was canceled due to Hurricane Irma. The Argonauts are 1-0 on the season picking up the win in week one against Missouri S&T. West Florida finished their inaugural season 5-6 and picked up their first-ever win over a nationally ranked team, #16 Florida Tech.
The Argos defeated Missouri S&T 20-16 behind starting quarterback Mike Beaudry throwing for 192 yards and two scores. UWF rushed for 41 yards.
LAST MEETING
Chowan picked up the win in the only meeting between the two programs last season 35-28. The Hawks and Argos met this time last season at Garrison Stadium.
The Hawks led 28-14 at the halftime whistle but found themselves in a battle as the Argos scored twice early in the third quarter. Chowan took the lead with 10:50 remaining in the fourth quarter and never relinquished the lead.
