Chowan Basketball Opens CIAA Play At Shaw Tuesday

MURFREESBORO, N.C. – The Chowan Men's and Women's Basketball team opens CIAA play on the road Tuesday evening against Shaw in Raleigh, N.C.

Women's Basketball (Game Notes)

HAWKS HIGHLIGHTS
Chowan opens up CIAA play with an 8-1 record and ranked eighth in the recent D2SIDA Atlantic Regional poll.  The Hawks are flying high with a four game winning streak.

The Hawks are led by seniors Dhyamond Crenshaw and Chantel Roberts.  Crenshaw leads the team with 18.9 points per game.  Roberts is close behind with 16.2 ppg and 7.8 rebounds per contest.  Mariah Coker chips in with 12.7 points and a shade under five dimes a game.

CU is tops in the CIAA in several categories.  The Hawks lead in points per game (80.3), steals (13.2), and assists (18.7).

ABOUT THE BEARS
Shaw comes into the contest with a 2-5 overall record.  The Bears are coming off a win against DIII William Peace last week.

The Bears are led senior LaQuisha Taylor with 24.7 points per contest.  KlinTisha Martin (14.6) and Chelsea Long (10.0) also post double-figure scoring marks.



Men's Basketball (Game Notes)

HAWKS HIGHLIGHTS
Chowan is looking to turn things around as the Hawks are on a four-game skid after starting the season 4-0.  CU is coming off a heartbreaking loss to Mount Olive, 65-64, after leading by double-figures at the half.

Chowan is led by senior Tim Hewett averaging 15.6 points per game.  Demetrius Sanders (13.6), Robert Grubbs (12.9), and Gus Rowland (11.6) are also in double-figures.  Dino Muminovic is coming on strong the past four games averaging 12.3 points and 10.3 rebounds per contest.

ABOUT THE BEARS
Shaw is 4-4 on the season and on a two game win streak to open CIAA play. The Bears are 2-2 at home this season.

Three Bears are recording double-figure scoring with DeAngelo Stephens Bell leading the charge with 20.8 points per game.  DeVaughn Kelsie (18.9) and Savon Goodman (15.5) round out the scoring.
