HOW IT HAPPENED

First Set: Chowan 20, Winston-Salem State 25

The opening set featured a back-and-forth style early as the score was tied at 8-all.  The Rams moved out in front until Bailey Zavala dropped in a kill.  Alyssa Born recorded a kill before a WSSU error cut the deficit to 12-11.

WSSU once again pushed ahead slightly before another run allowed the Rams to lead 21-15 forcing a timeout by the Hawks.

Self-inflicted errors allowed the Hawks to gain momentum.  Milica Vejnovic ended the rally with a kill, but the Rams took the opening set 25-20.

Second Set: Chowan 21, Winston-Salem State 25

The second set featured 16 ties with either team gaining more than a two point advantage.  After a timeout trailing 19-17, a WSSU service error and a kill by Kayla Gates knotted the set at 19-all forcing a timeout by the Rams.

The Rams would find the final six points in the set to take the set 25-21.

Third Set: Chowan 21, Winston-Salem State 25

Much like the previous two sets, the third was no different as the two teams battled back-and-forth.

Trading points through the middle of the set, WSSU gained the advantage as the Hawks made three straight miscues to allow the Rams to lead 21-17.

Two blocks and a kill by Karisa Patterson closed the gap to one, 21-20 late in the set.  The Rams notched three kills in the final five points to take the set and match to advance to the CIAA Championships.
