HAWKS HIGHLIGHTS
Chowan is coming off their first season under the direction of head coach LaToya Jones. The Hawks produced a 17-10 overall record last year and the top-seed in the CIAA Northern Division. Chowan picked up two monumental wins last season beating nationally ranked Virginia Union twice. VUU would go on and play for the NCAA National Championship.
The Hawks return seven players from last season: Chantel Roberts, Jada Lee, Mariah Coker (CIAA Rookie of the Year), Jordan Pettaway, Danielle Weldon, Dhyamond Crenshaw and Joanne Williams.
ABOUT THE BUILDERS
The Apprentice School went 10-14 last season. The Builders return their leading scorer from last season, Ylexis Traeger, who averaged 17.9 points per game.
LAST MEETING
Chowan is 4-1 against the Apprentice School since making the jump to Division II in 2007-08. The last meeting between the Hawks and the Builders occurred on December 30, 2009. Chowan came away with an 85-57 victory. The Builders come to the Helms Center for the first time since February 11, 2009. The Hawks squeaked out a 58-55 win.
