GAME NOTES
ROAD HAS NOT BEEN KIND
The Hawks have traveled over 4000 miles this season before making the trek to Bowie this weekend. Chowan picked up their first road win of the season in a 10-7 defensive stalemate last weekend against Johnson C. Smith. The Hawks are 1-2 on the road this season falling to Delta State and West Florida.
YOUNG GUNS
Chowan is led by freshman gunslinger Bryce Witt, who has accounted for all 12 touchdowns this season. Witt has thrown 11 touchdowns and picked up one on the ground. The rookie has eclipsed the 1000 yard passing mark so far this season.
Redshirt sophomore, Michael Offutt Jr., leads the Hawks in rushing with 334 yards and is third on the team with 139 yards receiving. Offutt Jr. was close to his second 100-yd rushing game as he produced 96 yards on 21 carries.
Freshman linebacker, Dre Terry, has stepped up for the Hawks as the Roanoke Rapids native is second on the team in tackles with 28. The Rookie has been named CIAA Rookie of the Week the past two weeks.
MILESTONE FOR WYCHE
Senior defensive lineman, Nate Wyche, picked up 1.5 sacks in the win over JCSU last week making him the all-time sack leader in Chowan football history. Wyche overthrew former All-American TJ Batchelor for the top spot.
NO FLY ZONES
Both teams have limited their opponent's passing games as the Hawks are second in the nation in fewest passing yards allowed at 97.0, while Bowie State is not far behind allowing 103.0. Chowan and Bowie State like to throw the ball around the field averaging 221 and 341 yards through the air respectively.
BATTLING AGAINST BOWIE STATE
Bowie State is 5-0 on the season and 2-0 in the CIAA Northern Division. The Bulldogs have played one game at home this season as they pummeled Shaw 76-7. BSU is #19 in the nation on the season led by seniors: Amir Hall (QB) and Robert Chesson (RB).
LAST MEETING/SERIES HISTORY
Bowie State holds the series record at 5-2 winning the past three meetings. The Hawks have lost the last two meetings by a combined 10 points as Chowan fell to Bowie State last season 21-14 and 17-14 the previous year.
Both of the wins for the Hawks in the series came on the road in 2011 and 2015.
