Chowan Defeats #15 North Greenville for Historic 16-13 Victory on the Road

TIGERVILLE, S.C. – The Chowan University football team took down undefeated #15 North Greenville University in a commanding 16-13 win on Saturday afternoon. The victory marks the first for the Hawks in the NCAA Division II era against a ranked opponent. The win also moves Chowan to first in the conference standings among the six other competing teams. The Hawks remain the only team still undefeated in conference play.

After a scoreless first quarter following a solid defensive effort by the Chowan defense, the Hawks broke through first in the second quarter as Tyler Adkins found Dezmond Randolph in the end zone for a 13-yard touchdown. Swanson converted a 34-yard field goal before halftime to put Chowan up 9-0. The Chowan defense made critical stops throughout the half, limiting North Greenville's scoring opportunities and keeping the Trailblazer's off the scoreboard.

Adkins found Amir Alexander for a five-yard touchdown in the third quarter to extend the lead to 16-0. North Greenville made a late push, scoring 13 points in the fourth quarter, including a defensive touchdown, but it would not be enough to overcome the Hawks as Chowan secured the 16-13 victory.
