Hawks Football Looks To Get Back On Track Against VUU

MURFREESBORO, N.C. – Chowan Football heads on the road for the fifth time this season and third week in a row as the Hawks travel to Richmond, Va. to face the Virginia Union Panthers in a CIAA Northern Division battle on Saturday, October 14.

GAME NOTES

ROAD HAS NOT BEEN KIND

The Hawks have traveled over 4500 miles this season before making the trek to Virginia Union this weekend.  Chowan picked up their first road win of the season in a 10-7 defensive stalemate against Johnson C. Smith.  The Hawks are 1-3 on the road this season falling to Delta State and West Florida.

YOUNG GUNS

Chowan is led by freshman gunslinger Bryce Witt, who has accounted for 12 of the 13 touchdowns this season.  Witt has thrown 11 touchdowns and picked up one on the ground.  The rookie has eclipsed the 1000 yard passing mark so far this season.

Freshman linebacker, Dre Terry, has stepped up for the Hawks as the Roanoke Rapids native is leading the team in tackles with 36.  The Rookie has been named CIAA Rookie of the Week twice this season.

MILESTONE FOR WYCHE

Senior defensive lineman, Nate Wyche, picked up 1.5 sacks in the win over JCSU last week making him the all-time sack leader in Chowan football history.  Wyche overthrew former All-American TJ Batchelor for the top spot.

VIRGINIA UNION PROFILE

Virginia Union is 4-2 on the season and tied for first in the CIAA Northern Division with a 3-0 record in league play.  The Panthers feature a balanced attack with a shade under 200 yards rushing and 200 yards passing this season.

LAST MEETING/SERIES HISTORY

Chowan trails in the series 3-6 and 0-4 on the road against Virginia Union.  The Hawks picked up the 54-21 victory last season at Garrison Stadium.

The Hawks limited the Panthers to 23 yards rushing.  Chowan raced out to a 27-0 lead and led 34-14 at the half.
