Box Score MURFREESBORO, NC – The Chowan University women's basketball team suffered a 75-70 overtime loss to Bowie State University on Saturday afternoon. BSU's Kiara Colston and Kyah Proctor combined to score 53 of the Lady Bulldogs 75 points to help propel them to the overtime victory over the home standing Hawks.
Jordan Payne led the Hawks with 22 points and 12 rebound in the setback.
Dhyamond Crenshaw recorded 13 points and five steals, while
Jada Lee chipped in 10 points for the Hawks.
CU's
Chantel Roberts got the Hawks on the board first in the game after draining a three ball to open the first quarter. The Hawks held that lead for just one possession and Bowie State took over. They went on to outscore the Hawks 20-15 in the first quarter.
Bowie State took a 32-28 into the halftime break but back-to-back scores by CU's
Jordan Payne to open the third quarter gave the Hawks their first lead since the opening play of the game at 33-32. The third and fourth quarters were back and forth with 13 different lead changes and 10 ties. It was Bowie State who pulled away late in the overtime period and iced the game after hitting 4-5 from the foul line over the last two minutes.
For Bowie State, Colston scored a game-high 27 points. Proctor ended the game with 26 points and eight rebounds.
Chowan falls to 12-6 overall and 5-3 in the CIAA while Bowie State University improves to 15-4 on the year and 7-2 in the CIAA. The Hawks are 2-1 in CIAA Northern Division play. They will host Lincoln University on January 25
th at 5:30pm in their next outing.
