Box Score WINSTON-SALEM, NC - The Chowan University women's basketball team couldn't overcome a sluggish start against Winston-Salem State University on Monday afternoon. Chowan fell to 11-5 overall and 4-2 in CIAA player after the 69-57 road loss. The Hawks were held to a 27% shooting performance and just 21 first half points.
Chowan forced Winston-Salem State to turn the ball over 30 times in the game but couldn't capitalize offensively off of those turnovers. The Hawks hit just 23 of 85 shots taken in the CIAA cross over game.
Freshman
Mariah Coker led the Hawks with 15 points. She also dished out five assists, grabbed six steals, and had five rebounds.
Jordan Payne hauled in 14 rebounds and scored 12 points and
Jada Lee chipped in 10 points in the loss.
WSSU hit shots at a 45% clip (24-53) and hauled in 56 team rebounds. The Lady Rams were paced by Kandace Tate who dropped 14 points Tina Edwards scored 13 points and had eight rebounds.
The Hawks will get back to CIAA Northern Division play on Wednesday night when they travel to Virginia State University for a 5:30pm tip off.
