Box Score MURFREESBORO- The Chowan University women's soccer team battled Goldey-Beacom College into two overtime periods before falling 2-1 to the Lightning. The Hawks move to 1-2 on the season while Goldey-Beacom improves to 2-0 on the year.
After a one hour lightning delay at the start of the contest, the Hawks got off to a quick start as
Kimberly Surio took advantage of a penalty kick in the 28
th minute to put Chowan on the board. Goldey-Beacom answered back less than ten minutes later when Natalie Waltz beat Hawks' keeper
Olivia Borer out of the box and sent the ball far post to knot the score 1-1.
Both teams continued to battle through the end of the first half and entered halftime still tied 1-1. The Hawks and Lighting fought to establish momentum in the second half, with neither team able to find the back of the net, sending the contest into overtime.
After a scoreless first overtime, Sophie Woods answered the call for Goldey-Beacom scoring the game-winning goal behind Kiera Young's assist just three minutes into the second overtime period.
Chowan recorded three shots in the setback.
Rebekah Beal,
Christine Chubb, and Surio each notched one shot apiece in the loss. Goldey-Beacom totaled 26 shots led by Becca Cordo with four.
Borer made 10 saves in goal for the Chowan Blue and White over the course of the contest.
The Hawks return to action on September 11
th as Chowan travels to take on St. Andrews University. Game time is slated for 2pm.
