Chowan Opens Scoring, But Ferrum Holds On in Tight Road Match

FERRUM, VA. – The Chowan University women's soccer team faced a narrow defeat to Ferrum College on Tuesday afternoon. Midfielder Laura Hulme gave the Hawks an early lead, converting an assist from Lily Harrison. Chowan maintained an aggressive approach on both ends of the field throughout the match, keeping pressure on Ferrum until the clock ran out. With the setback, the Hawks move to 7-7-1 overall and 7-4-1 in conference play, while the Panthers improve to 6-8-2 overall and 4-8-0 in the league.

INSIDE THE BOXSCORE

Chowan's offense remained aggressive throughout the match, registering 14 total shots, with 10 on goal. Laura Hulme led the charge, scoring in the 9:56 mark off an assist from Lily Harrison to give the Hawks an early 1–0 lead. The Panthers answered just 40 seconds before halftime, leveling the score at 1–1.

The second half remained scoreless until the final 10 minutes, when Ferrum scored again to bring the score to 2-1. The Hawks responded with several attempts to equalize but were unable to convert. Hulme finished the night with five shots, including two on goal, while Harrison added one shot on target, along with the assist. Zuhailee Rivera recorded three shots, all on goal, and Amy Cotton contributed two shots, one on goal. Destiny Makanjuola and Riley Donnelly each added a shot on goal, helping maintain offensive pressure.

Defensively, Kylee Smith started in goal, making four saves before handing duties to Gracie Ross, who finished the match with two additional saves.

UP NEXT

The Hawks will close out the regular season at home on Saturday, November 1, when they host Francis Marion University at 4:30 PM at Hawks Field.
