Box Score ATHENS, WV- The Chowan University men's soccer team suffered a 4-3 setback in overtime against Concord University on Wednesday afternoon. The Hawks move to 4-4-1 on the season with the loss while the Mountain Lions improve to 4-4 on the year with the win.
Both teams recorded 15 shots over the course of the competition.
Lee Wattam paced the Hawks with five shots for Chowan while
Terell Williamson followed with three shots.
Denis Roule added two shots in the setback with five other Hawks contributing to the shot count.
Yacouba Traore led the way for the Mountain Lions with five shots with Sam Ashton accounting for four shots in the victory.
The Hawks struck first in the contest. In the 25
th minute of play, Williamson capitalized on a penalty kick to give Chowan an early 1-0 edge. Six minutes later, a free kick by Max Simpson led to a header by Traore for Concord, knotting the score 1-1.
In the 39
th minute, Wattam found the back of the net off of
Swann Vincent's corner kick, pushing the Hawks ahead 2-1.
The Mountain Lions came back fighting after the halftime break. In the 57
th and 59
th minutes, respectively, Ashton and Traore both scored unassisted goals to lift Concord ahead 3-2. The Hawks refused to back down. In the 63
rd minute,
Octavio Espino found the back of the net after a free kick to knot the score 3-3.
Both teams failed to score through the end of regulation, sending the contest into overtime. Midway through the first overtime period, Sam Ashton provided the golden goal for the Mountain Lions, securing the win with the score.
Carlos Ramirez recorded five saves in goal for Chowan. Michael Adedigba notched five saves for Concord.
The Hawks return to action on October 8
th as Chowan plays host to Lees-McRae College. Game time is slated for 1pm on Hawks Field.
