Box Score WINGAT E, NC – The Chowan University women's basketball team suffered a 71-56 set back to Wingate University on Thursday night, ending a three-game win streak for the Hawks. Chowan moves to 10-3 after the loss while Wingate improves to 7-3 on the year.
The Hawks were slow to start offensively in the game while Wingate opened the game with a 7-0 run. CU's
Dhyamond Crenshaw opened the scoring for Chowan after hitting a lay-up halfway through the first quarter to cut the Bulldog lead to 7-2. Both offenses went silent late in the first quarter but it was Wingate who took a 13-9 advantage into the second quarter.The Hawks battled in the second quarter to get back in the game, closing the gap at the half 20-28.

Jordan Payne accounted for the first tie of the game after hitting a lay up at the 7:17 mark to knot the game at 33 apiece. Payne would later give Chowan the first lead of game at 39-38 after knocking down a lay up at the 5:39 mark of the third quarter.
The two teams exchanged baskets over the last half of the third quarter and opened the final quarter of play all tied up at 45-45.
Marta Miscenko opened the scoring for Wingate in the fourth to get up on Chowan 47-45. Courtni Wiliams answered on the Hawks next possession by draining a three pointer to take back the lead at 48-47.
Both teams exchanged scores over the first three minutes of play in the fourth quarter. Scores on back-to-back possessions by the Bulldogs spread their lead to 56-52 with 6:24 to play in the game. The Bulldogs spent the second half of the fourth quarter building on their lead to take the eventual 71-56 win over Chowan.
CU's Payne led the way for the Hawks with 17 points and eight rebounds. Crenshaw followed Payne with nine points and five rebounds. Wingate's Miscenko led all scorers in the game with 22 points. Witherspoon added 10 points and 14 rebounds.
Chowan will hit the floor again with a trip to CIAA South Division opponent, Johnson C. Smith University, on Thursday, January 5
th.
