Hawks Handle Bobcats in Season Finale

Terell Williamson recorded a hat-trick for the Hawks on Saturday.
Box Score MURFREESBORO - The Chowan University men's soccer team earned a commanding 8-2 win over the Lees -McRae Bobcats on Saturday afternoon. The Bobcats finish the season with a record of 5-14, while the Hawks conclude the year with a 9-6-2 record. The 2016 season marked the third consecutive winning season for Chowan in the NCAA Division II era. 

Chowan totaled 20 shots in the victory.  Ben Chapman recorded a team-high four shots in the win. Lee Wattam and Terell Williamson contributed three shots apiece for the Hawks. Ten different Chowan players recorded shots over the course of the contest.  

Lees-McRae was held to twelve shots in the game, with Taylor Gray recording four.

Bobcat goalies Justin Brown and Gabriel Muniz recorded two saves apiece, while Carlos Ramirez recorded three saves for Chowan in the win.

The Hawks grabbed the momentum right from the start after Williamson scored a goal within the first 15 seconds of play.  Paul Migliarina was credited with the assist on the play.  In the 12th minute, Wattam found the back of the net using a shot near post.  Williamson pushed the Hawks ahead 3-0 before the end of the first half.  He scored on a breakaway goal in the 23rd minute of play. 
 
After the halftime break, a pass from Josh Baker led to a goal near post by Williamson in the 54th minute.  Two minutes later, Palle Jesperson put the Bobcats on the board.  In the 58th minute of the contest, a Less-McRae foul led to a penalty kick for Chowan.  Kendal Pressey took advantage of the opportunity, found the back of the net, and sent Chowan ahead 5-1. 
 
The Hawks were relentless in their attack, with three different players recording goals before the end of the contest.   An assist by Jeremy Brooker led to a goal for Chapman in the 67th minute.  Over the next five minutes of play, Jordan Young and Baker recorded goals for the Hawks, putting the game out of reach. 
 
Trailing 8-1, Jesperson scored once more for Lees-McRae before the end of the contest.  He scored on a free kick in the 89th minute. 
 
The Hawks return to action in 2017.
