Hawks Soar, Records Fall in 73-0 Win over Lions

Tyree Lee recorded a single-game record 243 rushing yards on Saturday.
Box Score MURFREESBORO- The Chowan University football team closed out the 2016 season on a high note with a 73-0 win over Lincoln University (PA) on Saturday afternoon. 

Saturday's game was Senior Day for 17 Chowan football players and three Sapphires and also served as the 31st Annual Chowan University Jim Garrison Hall of Fame Game. 

Chowan ends the year with a 6-4 overall record and 4-3 mark in CIAA play.  The Hawks move to 6-1 in the series against the Lions and recorded a winning season for thesecond consecutive year; a first in Chowan's NCAA Division II era.  Lincoln (PA) concludes the 2016 season with a 1-9 overall record and 0-7 mark in league play. 

The Hawks racked up 671 offensive yards in the victory while holding the Lions to 154 offensive yards in the setback. 

Jordan Watkins completed 22-27 pass attempts for 314 yards for Chowan.  He threw five touchdown passes for the Hawks, tying the school's single-game passing records (5, CJ Westler vs. Johnson C. Smith, 2008).  Tyrone Carter notched eight receptions for 171 yards and three touchdowns with Ryan Nolan tallying seven receptions for 122 yards and one score.  Nolan also recorded two carries for 22 carries with one touchdown while also heaving a 45-yard touchdown pass for the Hawks. 

Tyree Lee led the Hawks' ground game with 22 carries for a school record 243 yards and two touchdowns.  Lee ends his career for the Chowan Blue and White with 2,114 rushing yards. 

Jason Epps completed 8-33 passes for Lincoln (PA) for 119 yards.  Cody Waddell notched 1 carry for 19 yards while Larquise Hobbs notched four receptions for 48 yards on the day.

Defensively, Tyler Wilson led all players in the contest with 12 tackles (six solo, six assisted).  Stephan Bolding followed with nine tackles (four solo, five assisted). 

Demetrius Newberry paced the Hawks with 10 tackles (four solo, six assisted) with five tackles for loss (21 yards) and one pass breakup.  Chris Rodgers followed with five tackles with one stop for loss (one yard). 

The Hawks dominated the contest from start to finish on Saturday.  Chowan scored on their first drive of the game and never looked back, scoring 21 points in the first quarter and 24 points in the second quarter to take a commanding 45-0 lead heading into the halftime break.  The Hawks built on the momentum in the second half and scored 14 points in both the third and fourth quarters to earn the 73-0 victory. 

Chowan returns to action in 2017.
