Hawks Open Play at Myrtle Beach Intercollegiate

Virginia Lane is tied for 5th place after Monday's opening round.
MYRTLE BEACH, SC- The Chowan University women's golf team opened play at the Myrtle Beach Intercollegiate on Monday afternoon.  Gaby Rivera-Garcia, L'leah Laing, and Virginia Lane competed for the Hawks at the Lion's Paw Course at Ocean Ridge Plantation.  The trio will play in the final round on Tuesday.

Lane led the effort for the Hawks on the opening day of play.  She carded a 75 on Monday and stands tied for fifth in the field of 91.  Rivera-Garcia shot an 87 for Chowan.  She concluded the first round in a five-way tied for 68th.  Laing carded a 100 in the opening round and is in 87th place individually.

Maria Torres of the University of West Georgia leads the field.  She holds a three-stroke lead after shooting a 70 on Monday.  The Wolves also stand in first place as a team after combining for a team score of 299.
