Box Score RALEIGH, NC – The Chowan University women's basketball team picked up their fourth straight win on Thursday in an 86-58 victory over Saint Augustine's University. The Hawks improve to 11-5 overall and 5-1 in league play with the win while the Lady Falcons slide to 3-13 overall and 0-6 against CIAA competition. Thursday's contest marks the seventh straight setback for Saint Augustine's University.
Alisha Mobley led all players in the contest with 19 points in the victory.
Jordan Payne and
Dhyamond Crenshaw both notched 11 points for the Chowan Blue and White with Payne grabbing 14 rebounds (four offensive, ten defensive).
Courtni Williams added nine points for Chowan in the victory. The Hawks' bench players accounted for 42 of Chowan's points with 10 different players scoring in the win.
Sycoya Dorsey led the effort for the Lady Falcons with 17 points while Shankka Harris added 10 points in the setback.
The Hawks raced to a 9-0 lead at the start of the first quarter using three free throws and two three pointers from Mobley and
Mercedes Tapia. Chowan held the Lady Falcons to just eight points in the first quarter and pulled away 20-8 after the first ten minutes of play.
Saint Augustine's battled back in the second quarter to cut the deficit to seven points (26-19) using Akera McPhaul's layup with 4:42 on the clock. Starting with
Shaikeyla Jordan's bucket on the Hawks' next possession, Chowan outscored the Lady Falcons 8-4 in the remainder of the quarter, resulting in a 34-23 advantage for Chowan heading into halftime.
The Hawks dominated the third quarter, outscoring the Lady Falcons 26-9 to pull away 60-32 entering the final ten minutes of the contest.
Chowan and Saint Augustine's both scored 26 points apiece in the fourth quarter of the contest, but the damage was done as the Hawks held a lead of 24 points of more to easily secure the 86-58 victory.
The Hawks open CIAA Northern Division play on Saturday. Chowan travels to take on Elizabeth City State University in a 2:00pm contest.
