Limestone Routs Chowan

Christine Chubb scored her fourth career goal on Tuesday.
Box Score MURFREESBORO- The Chowan University women's soccer team suffered an 8-1 setback to the visiting Limestone College Saints on Tuesday afternoon.  The Hawks slide to 1-3 on the year while the Saints remain undefeated with a 3-0 record on the short season after Tuesday's contest. 

The Saints used a strong first period to take a commanding lead over the Hawks.  Limestone had 31 shots in the first period, 14 of which were on goal. 

Isidora Hernandez put the Saints on the board eight minutes into the contest using Ciera Wall's assist from the top of the box.  Holding a 1-0 advantage, Holly Rawcliffe came alive for Limestone, scoring three of the Saints' next four goals before the halftime break.  Rawcliffe's first goal occurred in the 12th minute of play and her second came just six minutes later to push Limestone ahead 3-0.  Millie Shaw was credited with both assists. 

Rawcliffe struck again in the 25th minute when she beat Chowan's keeper one-on-one using Hernandez's feed from the top of the box.  Limestone added their fifth score of the period when Alex Mathis found Shalyn Dougherty in the 33rd minute of play. 

A through ball from Mathis allowed Allie Winglosky to score in the in the 52nd minute of play, leaving the Hawks trailing 6-0.  Eight minutes later, Mathis found the back of the net using an assist from Dougherty. 

On the Hawks' next possession, Susan Balladares found Christine Chubb, who beat Limestone's keeper out of the box to put Chowan on the board. 

Limestone quickly answered back as Briana Del Valle found the back of the net using Georgia John's corner kick to solidify the 8-1 victory. 

Marissa Ghani, Rebeccah Noll and Olivia Borer faced a total 40 shots with 22 on goal in the setback.  Ghani and Borer each made six saves while Noll added one save to aid the effort.  The Hawks had five total shots over the course of the afternoon.  Felice Hewitt accounted for two while Balladares, Chubb and Madison Spain each added one shot apiece in the setback. 

Tuesday's contest concluded a four game home stand for the Hawks.  Chowan hits the road on Saturday as they travel to take on Brevard College.  Match time is slated for 3:30pm.
