Box Score MURFREESBORO- The Chowan University women's soccer team dropped a 4-0 decision to the visiting Rams of Shepherd University on Sunday afternoon.  The Hawks slip to 1-2 on the short season while the Rams embark on the 2015 year with a 1-0 record. 

Chowan was held to just one shot in the contest while Hawks' keepers Marissa Ghani and Olivia Borer faced 34 shots by Shepherd in the setback, 14 of which were on goal.  Christine Chubb accounted for the lone shot for the Hawks on the afternoon. 

Samantha Leonard and Lexy Junker each scored two goals in the win for Shepherd.  Junker totaled four shots on goal on Sunday followed by Leonard with three.  Kayde Gustavel and Lauren Drever each added two shots on goal for the Rams while Taylor Harwood, Regan Stout and Brianna Hester each chipped in one shot on goal apiece. 
Ghani tallied eight saves in the first period for the Chowan Blue and White while Borer hauled in two saves after halftime.
 
The Rams wasted no time grabbing control of the game.  Kylie Duffin's feed to Leonard gave Shepherd a quick 1-0 advantage just three minutes into the contest.  Chowan held the Rams at-bay until the 35^th minute when Shepherd struck again as Junker found the back of the net, sending the ball far post using an assist from Abbey Hoffman.
 
With a 2-0 lead after halftime, Leonard beat Borer one-on-one in the 58^th minute of play, resulting in an unassisted goal and 3-0 advantage for the Rams.  Junker put the game away for Shepherd in the 83^rd minute when she sent the ball in from the top of the box past an outstretched Borer. 

The Hawks return to action on Tuesday, September 8^th when they play host to Limestone College.  Match time is slated for 1:00pm.
