Box Score CHARLESTON, WV- The Chowan University women's basketball team earned their second straight win on Tuesday evening with a 75-59 victory over the University of Charleston. The Hawks improve to 5-4 on the season while the Golden Eagles slip to 3-6 on the year.
Courtni Williams led all players in the contest with 19 points in the victory.
Dhyamond Crenshaw tallied 17 points while
Shaikeyla Jordan chipped in 10 points. Crenshaw grabbed a team-high six rebounds (three offensive, three defensive) while
Jada Lee and
Danielle Weldon added five rebounds apiece.
Chowan scored 26 points off of 27 Charleston turnovers over the course of the evening. Lee and
Joanne Williams both notched four steals for the Chowan Blue and White.
Chyress Lockhart led the effort for the Golden Eagles with 15 points while Kiara Johnson and Darian Apperson notched 14 points and 10 points, respectively.
Charleston raced to a 12-6 lead by the 4:05 mark in the first quarter. The Hawks answered back with a 12-0 run behind the efforts of Crenshaw and Jordan to close out the quarter with an 18-12 advantage. A jumper and layup by
Courtni Williams at the start of the second quarter pushed Chowan ahead 22-12. The Hawks held on to the advantage and led by as many as 12 points (36-24) before heading into halftime with a 36-28 lead.
Crenshaw opened the third quarter with a layup to give Chowan a 38-28 lead. The Hawks held an advantage of ten or more points for the remainder of the contest en route to the 75-59 victory.
Chowan returns to action on December 15
th when the Hawks open CIAA play with a road contest against Fayetteville State University. Tip-off is slated for 5:30pm.
