Box Score COLUMBIA, SC- The Chowan University men's soccer team battled back from an early deficit to defeat Columbia International University 3-2 on Saturday afternoon. The Hawks end the regular season 8-7-3 with the win while the Rams post a 7-8-1 record on the year after Saturday's contest.
The Hawks tallied 24 shots in the contest led by
Terell Williamson with six.
Ben Chapman and
Christian Funes each notched five shots in the win while
Swann Vincent tallied three shots.
Octavio Espino and
Francisco Ferrus both notched two shots for the Hawks while
Tre Bonaparte added one.
The Rams posted 12 shots in the setback led by Daniel Miele and Tyler Smith with three shots apiece.
Marco Lujan made five saves in goal for the Hawks while Stephen Replogle and Jacob Rechenbach combined to earn nine saves in goal for the Rams.
The Rams took an early lead in the contest. A Chowan foul in the 11
th minute of play led to a free kick for Columbia International. Daniel Miele took advantage of the opportunity and sent the ball far post to give the Rams a 1-0 edge. In the 18
th minute, Maksym Yakovenko sent the ball near post off a rebound to push Columbia International ahead 2-0. Tyler Smith was credited with the assist on the play.
In the 32
nd minute of play, Chapman ended the scoring drought after using a cross from Funes to put the Hawks on the board. Williamson found the back of the net two minutes later, sending the ball past the Rams' keeper to knot the score 2-2. Chapman was credited with the assist on the play.
Funes gave the Hawks the go-ahead with 14 minutes left in the game when he scored an unassisted goal out of the reach of Columbia International's keeper.
Chowan will compete in the NCCAA South Region Tournament November 18
th-21
