Box Score WASHINGTON, D.C. – The Chowan University women's basketball team fell to Saint Anselm College 75-63 on Sunday afternoon. The Chowan Hawks even their record to 3-3 after the setback while the Saint Anselm Hawks improve to 4-1 on the season with Sunday's win.
Alisha Mobley led all players in the contest with 23 points for Chowan.
Jada Lee added 17 points in the loss while
Dhyamond Crenshaw and
Jordan Payne chipped in eight points apiece for the Hawks. Payne also hauled in a team-high eight rebounds (one offensive, seven defensive).
Four players scored double-digit points for Saint Anselm. Catelyn Abela and Ali Glennon led the way with 17 points each followed by Kaila Duarte with 12 points and Candace Andrews with 11 points.
Saint Anselm took advantage of two free throw opportunities to take an early 2-0 lead in the contest. Lee answered with a layup for Chowan with 7:05 on the clock but a three-pointer by Ali Glennon pushed Saint Anselm ahead 5-2. Chowan stayed close on Saint Anselm's heels but trailed 16-13 heading into the second quarter.
With Chowan trailing 18-14 and 8:37 remaining in the second quarter, a 16-6 run by Saint Anselm handed the Chowan Hawks a 14 point deficit (34-20). At the 3:32 mark, two successful free throws by Mobley sparked a 10-0 run for the Chowan Blue and White and cut the deficit to four points (34-30). Abela ended the scoring drought with a jumper for Saint Anselm to leave Chowan trailing 36-30 heading into halftime.
Chowan pulled within three points (41-38) after a layup by Mobley at the 6:34 mark in the third quarter, but a 10-3 run by Saint Anselm left the Chowan Hawks trailing 51-41. A jumper by Andrews at the close of the third quarter left Chowan looking to recover from a 60-43 deficit.
The Chowan Hawks trailed by double-digits on all but two occasions in the fourth quarter before suffering the 75-63 setback.
The Hawks travel to Morrow, Georgia December 4

th to compete against Clayton State University and Armstrong State University.
