Box Score COLUMBIA, SC - The Chowan University men's soccer team swept top seeded, Emmanuel College, 2-0 on Thursday evening to advance to Saturday's championship game of the NCCAA South Region Tournament. The Hawks are the #4 seed in the tournament.
Chowan took control early in the first period when
Terell Williamson scored a goal in the 6th minute using an assist by
Jordan Radisavljevic. In the 27th minute of the game,
Tre Bonaparte scored a goal from 12 yards out assisted by
Swann Vincent to take a 2-0 lead. Chowan ended the first period with 13 shots while Emmanuel had five shots.
The second half was scoreless for both teams resulting in the 2-0 win for the Hawks. Over the course of the contest, Chowan outshot Emmanuel 21-13.
Marco Lujan made nine saves in goal for the Blue and White. For the Lions, Ryan Brose faced nine shots on goal during the game and made seven saves. Chowan's
Christian Funes and
Jordan Young each had three shots on goal during the game, while McNicholas, Bonaparte, and
Dylan Helm each accounted for one shot on goal for the Hawks. Martin Mitreski accounted for four shots on goal for the Lions, followed by Sean Fitz Gerald with two shots on goal. Blair Springhill, Sam Mutton, and Jordan Davis each had one shot on goal for Emmanuel.
With the win, the Hawks improve to 10-7-3 on the season and secure a spot in Saturday's championship game, while the Lions end their season with a 6-8-3 record.
The Hawks will take on the #2 seed, Southern Wesleyan University, in Columbia, South Carolina on Saturday at 3:00pm at CIU Field.
