Box Score MURFREESBORO- The Chowan University women's soccer team dropped a 2-0 decision to Barton College on Tuesday afternoon. The Hawks fall to 1-9 on the season with the setback while the Bulldogs improve to 5-2-2 after Tuesday's victory.
Barton got on the board within the first six minutes of play when Emily Futral headed Lane Brooks' corner kick far post to give the Bulldogs a 1-0 advantage. The Hawks were unable to answer back in the first period and headed into halftime looking to battle back from a 1-0 deficit.
Futral found the back of the net again for Barton just 16 seconds into the second period when she shot the ball from the top of the box near the cross bar out of
Marissa Ghani's reach to push Barton ahead 2-0. Ashley Batchelor was credited with the assist on the play.
The Hawks were out-shot 48-3 over the course of the afternoon. Futral paced the Bulldogs with 15 shots (six on goal) in the contest with 12 other Barton players contributing to the shot total. Ghani made 13 saves in goal for the Chowan Blue and White.
Sarah Ghaffoor had two shots for the Hawks while
Karen Keteltas tallied one shot in the setback. Barton keepers Haley Bell and Allison Bell teamed up to earn the shutout win for the Bulldogs.
Chowan returns to action on October 9
th when they travel to take on William Peace University. Game time is slated for 6:00pm at the Wake Med Soccer Park in Cary, North Carolina.
