Box Score WILSON, NC- The Chowan University women's soccer team dropped a 4-0 decision to Barton College on the road on Wednesday evening. The Hawks slide to 1-11-1 on the season with the setback while the Lady Bulldogs improve to 6-5-3 with the victory.
Barton took a 1-0 lead in the 12
th minute of play when Emily Futral found the back of the net with a goal far post using Taylor Doeble's assist. Chowan kept the Lady Bulldogs off the scoreboard for the remainder of the first period, but headed into halftime looking to overcome the 1-0 deficit.
The Lady Bulldogs extended their advantage in the 56
th minute of the contest using a goal by Ashley Batchelor. Kelly Dolan was credited with the assist on the play. With ten minutes left in the game, Kelsey Rothwell put the contest out of reach, scoring her first goal of the season far post off of Christina Everett's assist. Two minutes later, Everett connected with Giselle Dominguez, who sent the ball out of
Marissa Ghani's reach to push Barton ahead 4-0.
The Lady Bulldogs tallied 38 shots over the course of the competition. Batchelor led the effort with seven shots followed by Lane Brooks and Futral with five. Haley Sauls and Allison Bell teamed up to earn the shut out win in goal for the Lady Bulldogs.
Christine Chubb and
Felice Hewitt each recorded one shot in the contest for Chowan. Ghani collected 11 saves in goal in the setback.
The Hawks return to Hawks Field on Saturday, October 24
th to take on Columbia International University. The contest will serve as Senior Day for Chowan.
