Box Score MURFREESBORO- The Chowan University men's soccer team dropped a 2-1 decision to Newberry College on Wednesday evening. The Wolves improve to 2-10 on the season with the victory while the Hawks slide to 6-4-2 on the year after the setback.
Mario Stojkoski scored both goals for Newberry using assists from Lucas Ferreira on both occasions. The Wolves took the lead in the 28
th minute of play when Stojkoski sent the ball far post near the crossbar to give Newberry an early edge.
After the halftime break, in the 71
st minute of play, Stojkoski sent the ball far post again, this time from the top of the box, to push the Wolves ahead 2-0.
Terell Williamson put the Hawks on the board four minutes later when he sent the ball far post using
Jordan Radisavljevic's assist. The late score proved to be too little too late as Newberry walked away with the 2-1 victory.
Chowan tallied 15 shots in the loss led by
Barkan Koeprueluegil with four shots on the afternoon.
Francisco Ferrus added three shots with
Akinsola Okunsokan and Williamson accounting for two shots apiece for the Chowan Blue and White.
Jason Bradbury,
Ben Chapman,
Christian Funes and Radisavljevic each added one shot apiece in the contest.
Marco Lujan made two saves in goal for the Hawks.
Newberry had 13 shots in Wednesday's victory led by Ferreira with five. Ky Tyler added four shots to aid the effort with Stojkosi and Davis Brayan adding two shots. Newberry's keeper, Brad Dixon collected two shots over the course of the competition.
The Hawks return to action on October 18
th when they travel to Charleston (WV). Game time is slated for 3:00pm.
