Box Score MURFREESBORO- The Chowan University women's basketball team earned an 82-66 win over the visiting Saint Augustine's University Lady Falcons on Monday evening in CIAA crossover play. The Hawks improve to 6-7 overall and 2-1 in CIAA play with the win while the Lady Falcons move to 7-4 on the season and 1-1 in the league.
Chowan had 12 players score in the win with their bench players accounting for 42 of the team's points The Hawks held Saint Augustine's to a 29.4% shooting percentage in the contest.
Dhyamond Crenshaw and
Rachel Gostomski each scored 15 points for the Hawks in the win. Crenshaw grabbed four rebounds (one offensive, three defensive) and tallied three blocks for the Blue and White while
Kaela Nelson notched a team-high seven rebounds.
Terri Jacobs led all players in the contest with 20 points while Jeanne-Marie Wilson and Porscha Walton added 16 and 14 points, respectively. Jacobs grabbed a game-high 14 rebounds in the setback (seven offensive, seven defensive).
The Lady Falcons struck first in the contest using Wilson's made free throw. Gostomski's steal and three-pointer for the Hawks led to a 3-1 advantage for the Blue and White. Saint Augustine's managed to tie the score on two occasions in the remainder of the first half, but Chowan never surrendered the lead and carried a 36-28 advantage heading into halftime.
The Hawks continued to build on the momentum in the second half. A layup by
Chantel Roberts at the 17:52 mark gave Chowan a double digit lead (40-30). The Hawks led by as many as 26 points at the 10:55 mark before closing out the game with an 82-66 victory.
Chowan returns to action on January 8
th when they travel to Johnson C. Smith University. Tip-off for the CIAA crossover contest is slated for 5:30pm.
