SALISBURY, NC- The Chowan University men's cross country team competed in the Catawba College Invitational on Friday evening. The Hawks finished in sixth place out of six teams that competed in the meet.
Mars Hill finished in first place with a team score of 17. Derek Gibson led the way for the Lions. He completed the 8k course in 27:40 to take home individual champion honors. Tusculum finished in second with 64 points followed by the host team, Catawba, in third with 110 points. Warren Wilson finished just behind the Indians with a score of 115 while Winston-Salem State finished in fifth place with a team score of 172. Brevard competed in the meet as well, but did not earn a team score.
Tristan Martin led the effort for the Hawks. He finished in 28
th place overall and completed the course in 36:16.
Sasha Kirsanov crossed the finish line in 39:56 (36
th place) with
Jerrell Ralph finishing just behind at the 40:43 mark (37
th place).
Danilo Galovic and
Robert Williams rounded out the scoring for Chowan, finishing in 41
st and 42
nd place overall. Galovic finished in 44:32 while Williams ran the race in 46:13. PJ Hempfield also competed in the meet. He finished in 44
th place overall and completed the course in 51:08.
