Box Score MURFREESBORO- The Chowan University women's soccer team opened the season with an 8-0 loss to the visiting Rams of Shepherd University on Thursday afternoon.  The Hawks start the year with a 0-1 record while the Rams return to Shepherdstown with a 1-0 mark with the win. 

Chowan was out-shot 44-1 on the afternoon.  Marissa Ghani and Monica Hayward combined for 12 saves in the loss.  Felice Hewitt had the lone shot for the Hawks. 
Lexy Junker got the Rams rolling at the 14:20 mark in the first half with an unassisted goal off a breakaway.  A header by Taylor Harwood off Angela Labella's cross gave the Rams a 2-0 advantage on the next possession. 

Megan Norton, Stephanie Cox, and Rachel Sefton each scored unassisted goals in the first half to give Shepherd a comfortable 5-0 lead heading into halftime. 

The Hawks worked to hold the Rams at-bay in the second half, and held them scoreless until the 76^th minute of play when Kelsey Smith scored an unassisted goal for the Rams.  Junker followed up with a score one minute later to push Shepherd's lead to 7-0.  Lexi Vondrak added a goal off a breakaway in the 88^th minute of play to secure the 8-0 victory for the Rams. 

The Hawks travel to Lincoln, PA on Saturday to take on West Liberty.  Chowan will square off against the Lincoln Lady Lions on Sunday.  Game times are scheduled for 2:00pm on both days.
