Mount Olive Blanks Hawks

Marissa Ghani made 11 saves for the Hawks on Sunday.
Box Score MOUNT OLIVE, NC- The Chowan University women's soccer team dropped a 5-0 decision to the University of Mount Olive on Sunday afternoon.  The loss sinks the Hawks to 0-5 on the season while the Trojans improve to 2-3 on the year. 

Mount Olive outshot Chowan 18-0 in the first half, but settled for a 1-0 halftime lead thanks in part to Hawks' keeper Marissa Ghani.  Ghani recorded six of her 11 saves in the first half alone. 

Alex Wetherholt gave Mount Olive an early lead in the 10th minute of play using assists from Lauren Power and Ellie Barnes. 

In the 60th minute, Niza Vera found the back of the net for the Trojans.  The score was an unassisted goal off of a deflection. 
Jess Hickey scored for Mount Olive less than ten minutes later when Jocelyn Yurchak's service led to a breakaway for Hickey. 

Hickey struck against in the 76th minute.  She used Nichole Poppe's service for the score. 

With less than ten minutes left in the contest, Poppe scored for the Trojans using Rae Williams to solidify the 5-0 victory.  Felice Hewitt had the lone shot for the Hawks in the loss. 

Chowan returns to action on September 27th when they travel to Bob Jones University.  The Hawks will continue their weekend road trip with a make-up contest against Limestone on September 28th.
