MECHANICSVILLE, VA- The Chowan University men's cross country team had four student-athletes compete in their first meet of the 2014 season on Friday evening.
Phillip Hempfield,
Sasha Kirsanov,
Tristan Martin and
Jerrell Ralph ran in the meet as individuals at the Spider Alumni College Invitational.
Martin crossed the finish line in 19:39 while Kirsanov completed the 5k in 22:31. Ralph and Hempfield finished in 23:35 and 25:30, respectively.
William and Mary finished in first place out of the three team entries with 17 points. Trevor Sleight led the pack with a time of 15:05. The Richmond Spiders, the host team, finished in second place with 42 points with the Christopher Newport Captains grabbing a third place finish (73 points). The Hawks, competing as indiviudals, did not earn a team score.
Chowan competes again next Friday when they travel to the Catawba College Invitational on September 5
th.
