Box Score BLUEFIELD, WV- The Chowan University women's basketball team dropped a 72-62 decision to Bluefield State College
on Wednesday evening. The loss puts the Hawks at 10-11 on the season while the Lady Blues improve to 10-9 after earning their sixth straight win.
Kaela Nelson paced the Hawks with 11 points in the loss. She was the lone Chowan player to score double-digit points.
Rachel Gostomski added eight points while
Alisha Mobley,
RyJae Anderson and
Summer Curtis contributed seven points in the loss. Curtis also hauled in a team-high 10 rebounds (five offensive, five defensive).
Kearah Jeffreys led all players with 17 points for the Lady Blues. Tasia Nolan and Shay Gravely each tallied 12 points in the victory.

18:36 left in the first half gave the Hawks a 4-2 lead. The two point advantage would be the only lead of the half and of the game for Chowan. Midway through the first half, Jenaya Abernathy hit a jumper to spread the Bluefield State lead to 11 points at 19-8. The Hawks battled back to cut the lead to four points at the 6:16 mark after Gostomski scored back-to-back buckets on back-to-back steals. Janelle Murphy answered with a bucket on the Hawks next possession to cut the halftime lead to 39-28.
Bluefield State got up by as many as 19 points in the second half and eventually rolled to the 72-62 win.
