Box Score RICHMOND, VA- The Chowan University women's basketball team suffered a 66-56 setback to Virginia Union University in a CIAA Northern Division match-up on Saturday evening. The Hawks move to 12-15 overall and 6-10 in the league after the loss while the Lady Panthers improve to 9-15 overall and 6-10 against CIAA competition. Saturday's contest marked the regular season finale for both teams.

Alisha Mobley notched 23 points in the loss for the Hawks while
Rachel Gostomski chipped in 11 points. Mobley also hauled in a team-high 12 rebounds (six offensive, six defensive). Ashle Freeman paced the Lady Panthers with 23 points and Melyse Brown chipped in 14 points.
The Hawks trailed for the entire contest and managed to tie the score just once, at the 19:03 mark of the first half. A three-pointer by
RyJae Anderson with 11:47 on the clock put Chowan within one point (11-10), but a 15-3 run by the Lady Panthers gave Virginia Union a 26-13 lead with 5:31 remaining in the half. Chowan fought to narrow the deficit but the Lady Panthers led 29-18 at halftime.
The Hawks trailed by as many as 17 points (46-29) with 10:47 left in the game. Chowan clawed their way back to pull within five points (52-47) with 3:09 remaining, but Virginia Union battled to close out the game with the 66-56 win over the Hawks.
Chowan heads to Charlotte, NC on Monday to compete in the CIAA Tournament in Time Warner Cable Arena. Bracket information will be released as it becomes available.
