Lady Bulldogs Topple Hawks

Box Score MURFREESBORO, NC- The Chowan University women's basketball team dropped a 64-56 decision at the hands of the visiting Bowie State Lady Bulldogs on Saturday afternoon.  The loss moves the Hawks to 12-12 on the season and 5-8 in CIAA play. The Lady Bulldogs improve to 10-11 on the year and 5-8 in league play with the CIAA Northern Division win.  Saturday's game was the Hawks' Sixth Annual Play4Kay game with all proceeds benefitting cancer research. 
 
Alisha Mobley led all players in the contest with 15 points in the loss for Chowan.  She also hauled in 10 rebounds (five offensive, five defensive).  Courtni Williams added 10 points in the setback while Kaela Nelson tallied a game-high 13 rebounds (seven offensive, six defensive). 
 
The Lady Bulldogs had four players score double-digit points in the win.  Alessandra Flores led the way with 13 points followed by Donia Naylor with 12 points and Ashley Castle with Denver Clyde with 11 and 10 respectively. 
 
The Hawks jumped out to an early 4-0 lead using two jumpers from Kara Davis to start out the first half.   The Lady Bulldogs responded with a 9-0 run to pull away 9-4 at the 12:345 mark.  Bowie State maintained in control of the momentum and the score for the remaining of the half before taking a 30-22 advantage heading into halftime. 
 
The Lady Bulldogs continued to set the tone in the second half, maintaining the lead for the remainder of the contest.  They pulled away by as many as 11 (47-36) points at the 8:13 mark after a free throw by Flores.  Down but not out, the Hawks rallied to orchestrate a 6-0 run to pull within five points (47-42) with 6:41 left in the game.  The come-back was short lived as Bowie State held on for the 64-56 victory. 
 
The Hawks return to the Helms Center again on Monday evening for a CIAA Northern Division battle against Virginia State University.  Tip-off is slated for 5:30pm.
