Box Score MORROW, GA- The Chowan University women's basketball team snapped a six game losing streak with an 89-73 win over Clayton State University on Saturday evening. The Hawks improve to 1-6 on the season with the victory while the Lakers move to 6-3 after the setback. Chowan had six bench players account for 41 points in the win and shot 52% from the floor to earn the win on the Lakers' home floor.
Four Hawks scored double digit points in the victory.
Alisha Mobley paced Chowan with 23 points in the win.
Rachel Gostomski and
Courtni Williams chipped in 15 and 14 points apiece and
Jordan Payne notched 11 points for the Blue and White. Mobely hauled in 11 rebounds (two offensive, nine defensive) in the contest.
Yishica Sims led all players in the contest with 24 points for Clayton State. Tiara Green chipped in 14 points followed by Kayla Pryce with 12 points. Kenisha Jones-Barrett tallied 10 points for the Lakers.
Sims opened the contest with a layup for the Lakers, but
Summer Curtis' answered with a layup of her own for the Hawks. Both teams battled early in the first half, but with the score tied 15-15 at the 14:09 mark, a three-pointer by
Courtney Smith contributed to a 20-4 run for Chowan. With a 35-19 lead and 6:38 remaining in the half, the Hawks continued to control the court and headed into halftime with a commanding 48-28 advantage.
A 7-0 run by Clayton State at the start of the second half cut the Lakers' deficit to 13 points (48-35). Chowan answered with a 13-0 run to pull away 61-35 at the 13:31 mark. The 26 point lead was the largest of the contest for the Hawks.
Chowan remained in the control and led by 15 or more points for the rest of the half before closing out the game with the 89-73 victory.
The Hawks take the court again on December 15
th in their first home game of the season. Tip-off is slated for 6:00pm against UNC Pembroke.
