Box Score MURFREESBORO- The Chowan University women's basketball team ended the nonconference portion of their season with a 55-53 win over the University of Charleston on Saturday afternoon.  The victory was the Hawks' fourth consecutive win and third of the week.  The Hawks improve to 4-6 on the season while the Golden Eagles move to 7-3 on the year with the setback.

Alisha Mobley led the effort for the Hawks with 13 points.  Chantel Roberts posted a double-double performance with 10 points and 10 rebounds (three offensive, seven defensive).  Jordan Payne added eight points and Naima Harrington added seven points for the Blue and White.

Nichole Perry led all players in the game with 22 points for Charleston.  Kiara Johnson chipped in 11 points and hauled in 10 rebounds (three offensive, seven defensive) while DeJanique Reddix and LeAnne Ross scored seven points apiece in the loss.

The Golden Eagles started off the first half with a quick 6-0 lead and maintained the advantage for the majority of the first half.  Trailing 19-15 with 5:59 left in the first half, the Hawks clawed their way back from the deficit at the 3:30 mark when Dhyamond Crenshaw's layup knotted the score 21-21. The Golden Eagles held a narrow 23-21 lead with 3:21 remaining before halftime when Roberts' three-pointer gave the Hawks their first lead of the contest.  Both teams battled but settled for a tied score (26-26) heading into halftime.

Charleston grabbed the lead at the start of the first half but Chowan once again dug deep and used Harrington's jumper at the 14:13 mark to knot the score 34-34.  Alisha Mobley's basket gave the Hawks the advantage on the next possession and Chowan extended their lead to as many as 10 points (48-38) with 7:32 left in the game.  The Golden Eagles refused to go away quietly and cut the deficit to one point (54-53) on DeJanique Reddix's free throw, but the Hawks hung on to confirm the 55-53 victory.

Chowan returns to action at the start of the New Year when they host Fayetteville State University.  The CIAA crossover contest tips-off at 5:30pm on January 1st in the Helms Center.
