Box Score FRANKFORT, KY- The Chowan University women's basketball team fell to 0-4 on the season on Saturday afternoon with a 69-53 loss to Bluefield State College. The Lady Blues improve to 2-2 with the victory.
Shakima Wiggins led all players in the contest with 20 points for the Lady Blues. Tasia Nolan added 12 points while Tenika Jackson and Hope Smith added 11 and 10 points, respectively. Charity Harris dished out eight assists for Bluefield State.
Jordan Payne paced the Hawks with a team-high 12 points.
Courtni Williams added 11 points to aid the effort.
Summer Curtis notched eight points and six rebounds while Payne grabbed a team-high seven rebounds in the setback.
Bluefield State shot 50.9% from the floor while the Hawks shot 30.6% on the evening.
The Hawks started out hot in the first half and opened the contest with a 12-2 run. Chowan maintained a double-digit lead all the way until the 7:03 mark in the first half, and enjoyed a 28-21 advantage heading into halftime.
The Hawks held a 32-25 advantage at the 16:48 mark in the second half. A jumper by Nolan with 12:18 left to play put the exclamation point on an 11-4 run for the Lady Blues and tied the score. Payne responded for the Hawks with a basket, but from that point forward the momentum shifted permanently in favor of Bluefield State. The Lady Blues maintained the lead for the remainder of the contest and secured the 69-53 win.
Chowan looks to recover on December 2
nd when they travel to Saint Augustine's University for a nonconference outing against the Lady Falcons. Tip-off is slated for 5:30pm.
