Box Score FRANKFORT, KY- The Chowan University women's basketball team fell to 0-3 on the season with a 65-60 loss to Kentucky State University on Friday evening. The Thorobrettes start their season 1-0 with the victory.
Alisha Mobley led the Hawks with 17 points in the setback while
Jordan Payne chipped in 12 points for the Blue and White in the loss.
Naima Harrington posted nine points and grabbed nine rebounds in the contest.
Shaquandra Wiggins paced Kentucky State with 17 points while Shaia Horton added 16 points in the win. Wiggins also grabbed 10 rebounds to aid the effort.
Rachel Gostomski put the Hawks on the board first at the start of the contest with a jumper. Shayla Moore answered with a bucket for Kentucky State. The Thorobrettes held a 5-3 edge at the 17:59 mark when Mobley's three-pointer swung the momentum back in favor of the Hawks. Chowan built their lead to as many as 10 points (27-17) at the 6:02 mark, but a 7-0 run by Kentucky State brought the Thorobrettes within striking distance. The Hawks clung to a narrow 32-30 lead with 1:00 on the clock before halftime but a layup by Logan Powell knotted the score 32-32 at the end of the first half.
Wiggins hit a layup for Kentucky State to open up the second half. The Thorobrettes maintained the lead for the remainder of the contest and led by as many as 11 points with 12:40 left in the game before securing the 65-60 victory.
Chowan looks to recover on Saturday when they take on Bluefield State at 2:00pm.
