Box Score MURFREESBORO- The Chowan University men's soccer team clipped Emmanuel College 1-0 on Wednesday afternoon in the first round of play at the NCCAA South Region Tournament.
The first half featured two competitive teams vying for control of the momentum and control. Neither team was able to score in the first half. Heading into halftime, the shot count was 8-5 in favor of Emmanuel.
The scoring drought ended in the 60
th minute when
Christian Funes found the back of the net from
Barkan Koeprueluegil's assist. Funes sent to the ball into the near post past a diving effort from Emmanuel's keeper, Ryan Brose.
Brose made five saves in Wednesday's loss while
Marco Lujan tallied seven saves in the shutout win for the Blue and White.
The Hawks had 16 shots over the course of the afternoon and the Lions totaled 14 shots in the setback.
With the win, the Hawks improve to 12-7 on the season, tying the school record for single-season wins (originally set in 1996), and secured a spot in Thursday's semi-final contest.
The Hawks will take on Palm Beach Atlantic University on Hawks Field at 2:30pm. The Lions end their season with a 5-11-2 record.
