Box Score MURFREESBORO- The Chowan University women's soccer team fell to 0-9 on the season with a 5-0 loss to Goldey-Beacom College on Tuesday afternoon. The Lightning improve to 4-4 with the victory.
Alexandra Smith used Amy Runciman's assist from inside the box to score into the near post in the 11
th minute of play. Becca Cordo's service to Danielle Semenza led to a breakaway and another goal for Goldey-Beacom in the 28
th minute of the contest.
Jane Grimley found the back of the net for the Lightning ten minutes later to extend Goldey-Beacom's lead to 3-0 before halftime.
The Lightning tacked on two additional goals in the second half. In the 81
st minute of play, Amy Runciman used Nicole Curry's cross from the top of the box to send the ball into the upper post and over the reach of Chowan's keeper. With less than two minutes left in the game, Semenza scored her second goal of the contest to secure the 5-0 victory. Elena Power was credited with the assist.
Marissa Ghani made 13 saves in goal for the Blue and while
Monica Hayward made three of her own. The Hawks mustered four shots in the loss; two by
Felice Hewitt and two by
Sierra Hargraves. The Lightning had 45 shots in the contest and used three different goalies to earn the shut-out win.
Chowan returns to action on October 10
th when they host William Peace University. Game time is slated for 4:00pm.
