Box Score MURFREESBORO- The Chowan University women's soccer team earned their first win of the season on Friday evening with a 2-1 victory over William Peace University. The Hawks improve to 1-9 on the year with the win while the Pacers slip to 3-9-1.
The Hawks struck first in the contest when
Karen Keteltas' service allowed
Kylie McGrath to score from the top of the box. The Pacers responded in the 27
th minute of play when Dava McLamb found the back of the net using Amelia Melching's corner kick to knot the score 1-1.
McGrath scored her second goal of the evening in the 59
th minute to lead the Hawks to victory. She used
Emily Cross' assist to send the ball into the near post, securing the 2-1 win for Chowan.
The Pacers had 13 shots in the contest, compared to eight by the Hawks.
Marissa Ghani made six saves in goal for Chowan while Shannon Maddex made two saves for William Peace.
Chowan returns to action on October 12
th when they host The Lincoln University. Game time is slated for 1:00pm on Hawks Field.
