Lady Blue Bears Pull away down the Stretch in Win over Hawks

Box Score MURFREESBORO, NC- The Chowan University women's basketball team ended a three game home stand with a 75-61 loss to Livingstone College on Monday evening.  The CIAA crossover loss moves the Hawks to 8-8 on the season and 2-4 in league play.  The Lady Blue Bears improve to 9-7 overall and 4-2 in the CIAA after the win. 
 
Rachel Gostomski and Janelle Murphy each scored nine points in the loss.  Alisha Mobley followed with eight points and notched 12 rebounds (two offensive, 10 defensive) for the Blue and White.  Summer Curtis tallied five blocks. 
 
The Lady Blue Bears had three players score double-digit points to contribute to the victory.  Tiffany Evans lead the way with 17 points followed by Cierra York and Diamond Tolliver who accounted for 16 and 15 points respectively.  Sophie Lepzem hauled in a team-high 11 rebounds. 
 
The Hawks maintained a narrow lead for the first seven minutes of play.  A layup by Ashley Walker followed by a three-pointer by Tolliver at the 13:13 mark gave the Lady Blue Bears their first lead of the game (13-10).  Chowan and Livingstone exchanged buckets until a three-pointer by York with 6:08 remaining in the half gave the Lady Blue Bears their largest lead of the contest, 28-21.  Trailing 28-17 and 2:00 on the clock, Chantel Roberts' trey put the Hawks back in the lead before they closed out the half with a 32-20 advantage. 
 
Chowan held on to the lead until the 11:06 mark when Tolliver's lay-up knotted the score 45-45.  A three pointer by Ashley Walker gave the Lady Blue Bears their first lead of the half with 10:43 left to play. Livingstone never looked back from that point forward and closed out the contest with the 75-61 win.
 
The Hawks will be back in action on Saturday when they travel to Elizabeth City State.  The CIAA Northern Division match-up against the Lady Vikings is slated for a 5:30pm tip-off
