BOX SCORE The Chowan University women's soccer team fell to the visiting Cougars of Colorado Christian University on Thursday afternoon. The Hawks looked to kick off their season with a win, but it was the Cougars that snagged the 7-0 victory.
Colorado Christian struck early and often in the contest. Mariah Fredericks started the attack with an unassisted goal off a breakaway just over five minutes into the contest. Fredericks scored again in the 18
th minute, chipping in the goal off the top of the box after an assist from Elise Tokars.
Gabriele Blahnik drilled the third goal of the contest into the upper left post off a cross from Becca Hansen to give the Cougars a 3-0 advantage heading into halftime. Three minutes into the second half, Fredericks earned a hat trick after heading Maeghan Evans' corner kick past Hawks' keeper

Tori Hughes made the score 5-0 in the 60
th minute of the contest when she sent the ball into the upper right post from outside the box. Four minutes later, Blahnik took advantage of a breakaway and an open net to give Colorado Christian a 6-0 lead. Alyssa Palchetti put the game out of reach when she netted a goal in the upper left post off a breakaway in the 77
th minute of play.
The Cougars (1-0) depart for three road games before returning to Colorado on September 20
th for their home opener.
Hayward collected 14 saves in the contest for the Hawks.
Emily Cross mustered the Hawks' lone shot of the game. Chowan will hit the road for the next three contests, including back-to-back games in West Virginia this weekend. The Hawks (0-1) will take on West Liberty on Saturday at 12:00pm, and Wheeling Jesuit on Sunday at 12:00pm.
