Averett Blanks Hawks

Box Score DANVILLE, VA- The Chowan University women's soccer team fell to 0-8 on the season after suffering a 7-0 setback to the Cougars of Averett University on Sunday afternoon.  The Hawks managed four shots on goal in the contest in comparison to 15 from the Cougars. 

Camilla Sjoren put the Cougars on the board in the first minute of the contest off assists from Mathilda Hansoon and Sandra Johansson.  Johansson added a second score for Averett in the 18th minute off the assist from Hansson.  Sjoren scored her second goal of the contest off a corner kick from Nadja Sandau to make the score 3-0 in favor of the Cougars.  Four minutes later, Averett struck again with a second goal from Johansson thanks to an assist from Camilla Sjoren. 

In the thirtieth minute of play, Johansson earned the hat-trick when she used Sjoren's through ball to net her third goal of the contest and give the Cougars a 5-0 lead. 

Three minutes later, Suvi Piipponen scored an unassisted goal when she found the back of the net off her own corner kick.  

Averett would score once more before the contest was up.  In the 66th minute of play, Felicia Pajamaki used Emma Olsson's assist to confirm the 7-0 victory for the Cougars. 

Monica Hayward made eight saves in goal for the Hawks.  

Sunday's win moves Averett to 6-3 on the season.   The Hawks fall to 0-8 on the year and return to Murfreesboro on October 2nd to host Catawba College.  Game time is slated for 2:00pm.
