MURFREESBORO, NC- The Chowan University men's tennis team inched past the Shepherd Rams on Saturday afternoon.  With the match tied 4-4, Sasha Kirsanov secured the victory for the Hawks with a 6-7, 7-5, 6-2 win over Steven Lesko in singles competition. 
 
Farid Hajizada and Ivan Doubograev defeated Michael Lesko and Davis Grant 8-2 in doubles play with Kirsanov and Tristan Martin earning an 8-6 victory in doubles play as well. 
 
The Rams and Hawks battled point for point throughout the match.  With a 2-1 lead heading into doubles play, Chowan took two of the four sets in singles competition to set the table for Kirsanov.  After dropping the first set 7-6, Kirsanov battled back against Lesko to win the next two sets 7-5 and 6-2 and secure the 5-4 match victory for Chowan. 
 
The Hawks improve to 3-0 after Saturday's win.
