Box Score CONCORD, NC- The Chowan University women's basketball team moved to 6-2 on the season and improved their win streak to three games on Saturday evening in a 104-30 rout of Barber-Scotia. The Hawks had 12 different players score in the contest and combined to shoot 53% from the floor in the win. Chowan scored 64 points off of turnovers and had bench players account for 63 points in the contest. The Barber-Scotia Sabers fall to 1-13 on the season after the loss.
RyJae Anderson led all players in the game with 20 points.
Alisha Mobley chipped in 17 points while
Makya Alexander and
Naima Harrington each tallied 12 points in the victory.
Summer Curtis collected eight rebounds over the course of the evening (four offensive, four defensive) and had two blocks. Lindsay Lee led the effort for the Sabers, scoring a team-high 14 points and hauling in 10 rebounds (six offensive, four defensive).
Janelle Murphy's jumper on the Hawks' first possession sparked a 13-0 run to start the game. Chowan maintained a double-digit lead for the remainder of the half and led by as many as 30 points after a lay-up by
Danielle Witherspoon gave the Hawks a 36-6 lead with 7:35 remaining before halftime. A three pointer by Anderson followed by a jumper by Curtis gave the Hawks a 46-13 lead over the Sabers at the end of the first half.
Murphy got the momentum going again for Chowan at the start of the second half. Her lay-up 30 seconds in started a 9-0 run to extend the Hawks' lead to 57-13 with 17:39 left in the game. Chowan continued to dominate the court and used an 11-0 run to take a 70-15 lead at the 14:14 mark. The Hawks held Barber-Scotia to a mere 15 points from that point forward and allowed the Sabers just four free throw opportunities before closing out the contest with the 104-30 win.
Chowan travels to UNC-Pembroke on December 10
th to take on the Braves in their next outing. Tip-off is slated for 5:00pm.
