Alisha Mobley Named CIAA Co-Newcomer of the Week

HAMPTON, VA- The Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association in conjunction with the CIAA Sports Information Directors Association has made their selections for CIAA Player, Newcomer, Rookie and Coach of the Week.  Chowan University women's basketball student-athlete Alisha Mobley is the CIAA Co-Newcomer of the Week.  This is the fourth time Mobley has earned the honor. 
 
Mobley tallied 11 points in a 78-64 loss to UNC-Pembroke last Tuesday.  She hauled in 11 rebounds (three offensive, eight defensive) to earn the double-double.  Mobley leads the Hawks this season averaging 15.8 points per game and 7.3 rebounds per contest.  She has been Chowan's leading six times this season. 
 
The Hawks host Belmont Abbey on Tuesday evening in a nonconference match-up.  Chowan enters the contest 6-3 on the season.  Tip-off is slated for 5:30pm in the Helms Center. 
 
Jasmine Elum of Winston-Salem State earned CIAA Co-Newcomer of the Week honors after leading the Lady Rams to a dominating 89-56 win over Barton.  She shot 50% from the floor en-route to scoring 17 points in the victory.

Notes:
Freeman scored 30 points in a single game for the second time this season to lead VUU to a 64-55 win over East Stroudsburg. Freeman scored 55 points in the past two games for the Lady Panthers.

Women's Co-Newcomers of the Week 
Jasmine Elum, Winston-Salem
(Sr, G - Philiadelphia, Pa, Jersey #15)

Notes:
Elum led the Lady Rams to a dominating 89-56 win over the Barton Bulldogs after nearly two weeks off. She shot 50% from the floor (6-of-12) and went a perfect 3-for-3 from the free throw line. She also added a pair of steals.

Women's Coach of the Week
Renard Smith, Bowie State
Smith has the Lady Bulldogs off to a 5-1 record this season with a team made up of nine new players. In BSU's only outing of the week, the Lady Bulldogs cruised to an easy 91-56 home win over Washington Adventist University.
