Box Score BELMONT ABBEY, NC- The Chowan University women's basketball team fell to Belmont Abbey 64-61 on Monday evening. The Hawks move to 3-2 on the season while the Crusaders improve to 2-2 with the victory.
Summer Curtis and
Alisha Mobley led the Hawks with 11 points in the loss.
Courtni Williams followed with 10 points. Curtis and Mobley each hauled in seven rebounds in the contest. McKenzie Owen and Morgan Midkiff paced the Crusaders with 16 and 14 points respectively.
Chowan and Belmont Abbey exchanged baskets early in the first half with neither team securing a significant lead. A layup by
RyJae Anderson with 1:51 left on the clock put the momentum in favor of the Hawks and led to Chowan taking a 32-29 lead hearing into halftime.
The second half was close as well, but Belmont Abbey outscored the Hawks 35-28 after halftime to earn the win. At the 16:10 mark, Caitlyn Ranson drained a three pointer to give the Crusaders a narrow 35-34 lead. Belmont Abbey maintained the lead from that point forward. Another three pointer by Ranson midway through the second half gave the Crusaders a seven point lead, their largest of the game. The Hawks battled to overcome the deficit and came within a mere point of Belmont Abbet with Mobley's layup with 51 ticks left on the clock, by the Crusaders escaped with the 64-61 victory.
Chowan will take off from competition until Saturday when they travel to take on Barton College. Tipoff is slated for 2:00pm.
